Athletics parking and traffic advisory for THON weekend 2016

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — With the Bryce Jordan Center scheduled to host the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON) from 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, through 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21, Penn State Transportation Services has announced special event parking procedures for the men's hockey contests versus Ohio State at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, and 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20.

Visitors are encouraged to use caution and allow extra time to reach the event facilities, as heavy traffic is expected on and around campus throughout the weekend and may result in delays.

PREMIUM HOCKEY PARKING

Men's hockey ticket holders with premium parking passes should park at their regularly assigned lots at Lot Yellow H Shields, Lot Yellow H Wagner and Lot Orange F.

To ensure that sufficient parking is available for Saturday's men's hockey game, all vehicles must be removed from the premium hockey parking lots before 10 p.m. Friday night, at which time the lots will be secured for Saturday parking. Anyone parked in the premium parking areas wishing to visit THON after the conclusion of Friday's men's hockey game are asked to relocate their vehicle to Lot 44, Stadium West or Porter North.

GENERAL HOCKEY PARKING AND HOCKEY PARKING VOUCHERS

With faculty, staff and students utilizing event lots during the day, event parking will not be available until 4 p.m. Friday. To accommodate the capacity crowds expected to attend THON throughout the weekend, the majority of Lot 44 and Stadium West and all of Porter North will be utilized for THON parking.

Anyone attending this weekend's men's hockey games (including fans possessing hockey parking vouchers) will be directed to the following sections of Lot 44 and Stadium West, which will be specifically reserved for men's hockey parking only:

  • Lot 44 South -- The southernmost section of Lot 44 (Jordan East) is located south of Dauer Drive near the Multi-Sports Facility, and is accessible from University Drive via Dauer Drive, and from College Avenue and Park Avenue via Porter Road.
  • Stadium West Expansion -- The recently-added section of Stadium West is located on the westernmost side of the lot near the intersection of University Drive and Curtin Road, but is accessible only from Park Avenue.

For fans wishing to avoid the heavy traffic expected at Lot 44 and Stadium West on Friday and Saturday, parking will also be available at the East Parking Deck. Located on Bigler Road near the Berkey Creamery, this parking facility is most easily reached from Park Avenue and is just a short walk to Pegula Ice Arena.

A $5 event parking fee will be due upon entry at each of the Men's Hockey parking locations. Please note that event parking attendants accept cash only. Vehicles redeeming a hockey parking voucher or displaying a valid Penn State parking permit will not be subject to the event parking fee.

To ensure that sufficient parking is available for Saturday's men's hockey game, all vehicles should be removed from Lot 44 South and the hockey parking section of Stadium West before 10 p.m. Friday night.

ADA PARKING FOR MEN'S HOCKEY

ADA parking for men's hockey will be available at the southwest corner of Stadium West near the intersection of University Drive and Curtin Road. This parking area is only accessible via Park Avenue. A valid state-issued ADA placard or license plate is required, along with a valid Penn State permit, hockey parking voucher, or payment of the event parking fee. Fans can use the circle in the Yellow-H South parking lot at Gate C for drop off and pick up. There is no public parking available in Yellow-H South.
