Palmer Museum of Art announces 'The Art of Music' spring 2016 performances

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Palmer Museum of Art continues to present the 11th season of "The Art of Music," its popular music series featuring faculty and student performers from the Penn State School of Music and the community. All are invited to enjoy beautiful chamber music and virtuosic solo performances in the inspiring setting of the galleries. Admission is free, but seating is limited.

Penn State Opera Theatre will perform Selections from "The Barber of Seville" at 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17.

David Stambler, saxophone, and Kathy Cinatl, piano, will perform "Sax and Violins: A Fresh Look at Classic Repertoire" at 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16.

The Orpheus Singers, directed by Christopher Kiver, will perform "Sacred and Profane: Choral Music Through the Ages" at 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20.

Exhibitions on view at the Palmer Museum of Art this spring are "From Dada to Dalí: Surrealist Works on Paper" from Jan. 12 through May 8; "Consciously Surreal: Photography, the Uncanny, and the Body" from Jan. 12 through May 8; and "Small Prints, Big Artists: Renaissance and Baroque Masterpieces from Carnegie Museum of Art" from Feb. 2 through May 15. "Small Prints, Big Artists: Renaissance and Baroque Masterpieces from Carnegie Museum of Art" was organized by the Carnegie Museum of Art.

The Palmer Museum of Art at Penn State is located on Curtin Road and admission is free. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday. The museum is closed Mondays and some holidays. From Saturday, March 5, through Sunday, March 13, the museum will be open from noon to 4 p.m. The museum will be closed on Sunday, March 27.
