Dickinson Law to host 'Discover a Career in Law' event March 1

CARLISLE, Pa. — Penn State's Dickinson Law, in partnership with the Law School Admission Council (LSAC), will host "Discover a Career in Law" from 10 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1, at Lewis Katz Hall on the Dickinson Law campus in Carlisle.

Part of an ongoing, collaborative effort between Dickinson Law and LSAC to increase minority enrollment in the nation’s law schools, the program is designed to educate and inspire those from backgrounds who have been historically under-represented in legal fields to explore a career in law. College freshmen and sophomores who are considering pursuing a legal education and career in the legal field are encouraged to attend this program.

Participants will get an inside look at the law school experience by attending a mock law school class on legal issues surrounding the controversial stop-and-frisk policies of the New York Police Department, hearing from a diverse group of Dickinson Law students about their experiences, and learning what resources are available to prepare for law school and a career in law.

The program will include:

  • 10 to 10:30 a.m. -- Introduction to Discover Law Resources
  • 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. -- Mock Law School Class: Legal Issues Surrounding Stop & Frisk
  • 11:15 to noon -- Lunch with Current Dickinson Law Students
  • noon to 12:45 p.m. -- Student Club Presentations
  • 12:45 to 1:15 p.m. -- Tours of Dickinson Law

“We’re excited to collaborate with LSAC once again to offer this program to students,” said Leah Young, director of admissions and financial aid for Dickinson Law. “This is a great opportunity to engage students who are interested in learning more about law school, as well as demonstrating the varied career paths available to those who pursue a legal education.”

Online registration is required and open until Thursday, Feb. 25. High school students are also welcome to attend. For more information, contact Young at lmy11@psu.edu.
