January 25, 2016

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — HealthWorks, a peer education group in University Health Services, will present two performances of “The Body Monologues.”

The first performance will be at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 1, in the Penn State Downtown Theatre Center. This performance will be held in partnership with Cultural Conversations 2016’s “For the Health of…” festival. There is a $3 admission fee at the door and half of the proceeds go to the For Good Performance Troupe.

The second performance will be at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 16, in Freeman Auditorium in the HUB-Robeson Center. There is no admission fee for the Feb. 16 performance.

“The Body Monologues” is a project designed to foster conversations about body image through theater. During this event, Penn State students will take to the stage to voice their musings, challenges, and triumphs related to body image. After the performance, audience members and performers will have the opportunity to share their opinions and ask questions about body image.

“We hope to increase dialogue about this difficult topic by having students share their personal stories,” said Stacy Jones, community health educator and dietitian with University Health Services.

“The Body Monologues” is part of a continuing awareness campaign by HealthWorks that focuses on improving body image.
