Silveyra named a YWCA Tribute to Women of Excellence award winner

Penn State Hershey’s Patricia Silveyra has been named a YWCA Tribute to Women of Excellence 2016 award recipient. This regionally recognized annual event provides an opportunity for local companies, agencies and individuals to nominate central Pennsylvania's leading female professionals and community volunteers.

Silveyra was interim director for diversity and inclusion in education while a search was underway for the position. She serves on the faculty in the departments of pediatrics, humanities, and biochemistry and molecular biology. She has been actively involved with diversity and inclusion efforts as a member of the Dean’s Council on Diversity, co-chair of the Campus Council on Diversity, faculty advisor for minority students and executive committee member for the Organization for the Advancement of Women.

She is a board member and secretary of Estamos Unidos de Pennsylvania, a nonprofit organization in Harrisburg that focuses on community service through educational projects, leadership and social skills development, and assisting Latinos integrate into the larger community. She is also a member of the Latino Hispanic Professional Association, a nonprofit agency that offers members professional development and networking opportunities in the greater Harrisburg area; and a member of the Hershey Rotary Club.

The Women of Excellence nominees will be featured in the March 2016 edition of Harrisburg Magazine, and an awards ceremony dinner will be held on March 16.
