Gayah to receive Cambridge Systematics New Faculty Award

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. –Vikash Gayah, assistant professor of civil engineering at Penn State, was recently selected as the recipient of the Cambridge Systematics New Faculty Award, one of the most prestigious awards offered by the Council of University Transportation Centers (CUTC).

The Cambridge Systematics New Faculty Award is given annually to a tenure-track faculty member in transportation education to recognize outstanding teaching and research contributions to the transportation field.

Gayah will receive the award at the CUTC annual awards banquet on Jan. 9 in Washington D.C. where he will receive an appropriate citation and a check for $2,000.

“I was very surprised and honored to be selected for such a prestigious award, Gayah said. “Even more than that, I was just extremely humbled to know that my colleagues, Martin Pietrucha and Eric Donnell, had enough confidence in me to nominate me for this recognition.”

The CUTC was established in 1979 by major transportation research centers and institutes in the United States to provide a forum for the Universities and Centers to interact collectively with government and industry. Their mission is to promote university research, education, workforce development and technology transfer as essential to the nation’s transportation system.

Gayah has been a member of the University faculty since 2012. His research interests include urban traffic network dynamics, urban mobility, traffic operations and control, traffic safety and statistical modeling of transportation data.
