Penn State Greater Allegheny has been granted joint authorization to deliver the Bachelor of Science in Project and Supply Chain Management (PSCM) program. The new four-year major will begin in fall 2016. The major will be offered in collaboration with the Penn State campuses of Beaver, Fayette, New Kensington and Shenango.The PSCM major concentrates on developing knowledge, skills, and abilities in project management, an important discipline in modern corporations. Project management skills include the development of new projects and coordinating procurement and project delivery systems. The major also emphasizes the integration of manufacturing and service operations, logistics, purchasing, and distribution that enable organizations to develop supply chain networks.
“The ability to offer PSCM at Greater Allegheny will provide students with the opportunity to earn a Penn State degree, without leaving the Greater Pittsburgh area, in a field where graduates are in high demand. This is especially true in western Pennsylvania where a growing number of employers require access to a workforce with knowledge of project and supply chain management," said John Peles, interim associate director of academic affairs.
Students will have an opportunity to develop the quantitative and people skills necessary to design and operate complex management systems. The skills can be used to schedule and coordinate resources, monitor and control projects, and coordinate procurement and project delivery systems.
Graduates will be prepared for careers in many professions in business. They are able to manage supply chain and project initiatives in global corporations, government, public sector organizations, construction, third-party logistics providers, and goods and services distribution operations.
All courses needed for the degree will be offered at each campus, although students in the program should expect to take some courses through a combination of Web-based and face-to-face technology in addition to the traditional classroom setting.
At the Greater Allegheny campus, the program will be coordinated by Michelle Hough, associate professor of business administration. “The PSCM major provides unique opportunities for students to position themselves for career success in some of the most aggressively recruited segments of business. PSCM graduates manage supply chain and projects initiatives in world-class corporations, government, public sector organizations, construction, third-party logistics providers, and goods and services distribution operations. We truly are excited to offer this interesting, innovative, and highly sought-after degree program,” said Hough. With the addition of the new program, the Greater Allegheny campus will now offer eleven baccalaureate degrees. Students can earn bachelor of science degrees in administration of justice; biobehavioral health; business; information sciences and technology; project and supply chain management; psychology; and bachelor of arts degrees in administration of justice; communications; English; letters, arts, and sciences; and psychology.
