UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — For much of winter break and the beginning of the spring semester, the Berkey Creamery retail store will be closed due to major renovations. The store, located on the ground floor of the Rodney A. Erickson Food Science Building on Curtin Road, is expected to remain closed from 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 23 to mid-February, although there is no formal completion date. Wholesale delivery to other on-campus locations will continue during this period.
According to Jim Brown, creamery assistant manager, the purpose of the renovation is to improve product availability and efficiency and to make shopping in the store a smoother and more enjoyable experience.
"For 150 years, creating smiles on the faces of everyone who visits here has been our priority," he said. "It's our goal to continue that tradition for the next 150 years. We appreciate our customers' patience and want them to know they can still contact us during regular office hours while renovations are being completed."
The Berkey Creamery will close completely at the close of business on Dec. 23 for winter break. The office will open on Monday, Jan. 4, to answer inquiries and fill online orders. However, the store will remain closed until renovations are complete.
Wholesale delivery to the dining halls and other eateries across campus will continue without interruption, and product pickup by local businesses that sell creamery products still will be allowed during this time.
Although the on-campus store will suspend its retail operations for this time period, customers still can buy creamery ice cream, cheese and other products via the creamery's website.
