HERSHEY, Pa. — Organizers of the 11th Annual Kalenak Memorial Golf Classic have presented a check for $15,000 to Penn State Hershey Medical Center’s Palliative Care Program. The Golf Classic was held on June 5 at the Hershey Country Club. It was started in 2003 by the late Dr. Alexander Kalenak in memory of his wife, Kay, as a way to raise funds and awareness about the need for palliative care in the Hershey community. During his wife's illness, Kalenak realized that patients like Kay could benefit from a team approach that integrates medical, emotional and spiritual support. Kalenak had a long and distinguished career as an orthopedic surgeon in the Hershey area and served as the team physician for the Penn State football team. Since its inception, the Golf Classic has raised more than $70,000.
