Parking, transit changes in effect during Thanksgiving holiday week

Penn State Transportation Services and CATA have announced changes to parking and transit in advance of next week’s Thanksgiving holiday.

Parking (Monday, Nov. 23 - Wednesday, Nov. 25)

While classes will not be in session next week, the University will remain open for business from Monday, Nov. 23, through Wednesday, Nov. 25, and all normal weekday parking regulations will remain in effect through Wednesday.

However, due to reduced CATA LOOP and LINK service next week, faculty/staff Orange and Commuter permits will be valid from Monday, Nov. 23 through Wednesday, Nov. 25, at the following parking areas:

  • East Deck
  • Eisenhower Deck
  • Nittany Deck
  • Lot Red A
  • Orange lots

All other faculty/staff permit holders must park in their designated parking areas, or at one of the Orange or Commuter lots. Evening/weekend permits will remain valid only after 4 p.m. from Monday through Wednesday.

Please note that Orange and Commuter permits will NOT be valid at the HUB Parking Deck from Monday through Wednesday.

To access gated AVI controlled facilities (East Deck and Nittany Deck) without the proper permit/transponder from Monday through Wednesday, drivers must do the following:

  • Pull a stub from the gate machine to enter.
  • Present the stub and show your faculty/staff permit to the attendant to exit.

All standard visitor parking regulations will be in effect from Monday, Nov. 23, through Wednesday, Nov. 25. Visitors will be required to display a valid permit or park at one of the hourly parking decks (East, HUB, Nittany) and pay the $1 per hour fee. Overnight parking at those facilities requires a valid permit, which may be purchased at the Parking Office or at any parking information kiosk.

Parking (Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27)

Weekend parking regulations will be in effect Thursday, Nov. 26, and Friday, Nov. 27, which means that faculty/staff and student permit holders may park in all lots normally available to them during evening/weekend hours. Visitor parking will be available Thursday and Friday at no charge at all four campus parking decks, as well as at any campus lots not designated as being reserved 24 hours a day, seven days a week (see lot entrance signs for reserved hours).

Overnight restrictions between 2 and 4 a.m. for the Commuter lots, as well as for student Commuter permit holders, will remain in effect, and all reserved parking spaces such as ADA, service/delivery, etc. will remain reserved next week.

CATABUS Service

Beginning Sunday, Nov. 22 through Saturday, Nov. 28, CATABUS services will operate on their REDUCED SERVICE schedule, which includes no WHITE LOOP or GREEN LINK service Monday through Saturday. Full details regarding CATA’s REDUCED SERVICE schedule can be found at CATA's website.
