UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The College of Arts and Architecture will present a “Salon Conversation” about the issue of sex crimes, in connection with the Penn State Centre Stage production of "Good Kids," from 5–7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18, on the third floor of the Health and Human Development Building. A follow-up conversation on the same topic will be held from 5–7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1, in 312 Biobehavioral Health Building. These events will be the first in a series of Salon Conversations intended to provide a space where students, faculty and staff can talk openly about topics relevant to the Penn State community.
"Good Kids," a new play, explores the very public and unsettling aftermath of a sex crime and its cover-up (Nov. 16–Dec. 5 at the Pavilion Theatre; more information and tickets available at https://theatre.psu.edu/2014-2015-season-schedule). The Nov. 18 conversation will be facilitated by Susan Russell, associate professor of theatre; Nancy Schwartzman, filmmaker and founder of Tech 4 Good LLC; and Theresa K. Vescio, associate professor of psychology and women’s studies.
“The Salon Conversations project is a place where students have a platform to voice their opinions and to connect to others,” said Wilna Taylor, assistant to the dean for student engagement in the College of Arts and Architecture. “The salon is also designed to encourage students to be active participants in crafting the conversations and to get involved with projects or events taking place on campus to enrich their college experiences.”
Light refreshments will be served during both events.
The conversations are co-presented by the College of Health and Human Development, Center for Student Conduct, Center for Women Students, College of Communications, College of the Liberal Arts, and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS).
