A two-day career development conference will feature top female industry representatives who will share their experiences as leaders in their fields. Penn State Women: Leaders of Today and Tomorrow will connect current students with successful Penn State alumnae through a panel discussion and one-on-one appointments.

Sandy Barbour, Penn State director of athletics, will open the panel discussion at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, in 113 Carnegie Building on the University Park campus of Penn State. During the panel, alumnae will share stories of their successes and the challenges they tackled along the way. The event is open to all Penn State students and is free of charge.

Students will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with alumnae on Friday, Nov. 6, by signing up on the event website. Students will be able to discuss career and leadership aspirations and get résumé suggestions and interview tips.

“Penn State played such an important role in my development and I’m thrilled to be able to give back and interact with a group of women who will be the next generation of leaders throughout the country,” said Binney Wietlisbach, president of The Haverford Trust Company and host of the event. “By the end of this event, we hope that all of the women in attendance will feel empowered to use the skills and connections they have to carve out a successful and worthwhile career.”

The panel will feature five College of the Liberal Arts alumnae: Gretchen Birkle, 1986 foreign service and international politics; Kathleen Casey, 1988 foreign service; Lauren Ridley, 2008 psychology; Binney Wietlisbach, 1985 psychology; Sara Woods, 1996 women’s studies. Denise Solomon, research professor of communication arts and sciences, will moderate the panel discussion.
