Penn State faculty members to present findings on Hurricane Katrina devastation

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — It’s been more than 10 years since Hurricane Katrina hit the Louisiana coast, devastating a large swath of coastline, including the city of New Orleans.

Many scholars are still attempting to determine how much damage was done as a result of the hurricane and the flooding that followed, and among these are five Penn State scholars.

The Department of African American Studies, in partnership with the College of the Liberal Arts, will present "Flooding the Promised Land: Ten Years After Katrina" at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28, in 151 Willard Building on Penn State's University Park campus. Five speakers — Errol Henderson, Niki Dickerson VonLockette, Doug Bessette, Courtney Morris, and Trung Nguyen — representing five different disciplines across the University, will analyze the lasting impact that Hurricane Katrina’s devastation has had on the city of New Orleans.
