Penn State College of Nursing researchers Judith Hupcey, Lisa Kitko and Windy Alonso received honorable mention for their poster presentation at the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) 30th Anniversary Scientific Symposium on October 13. Their abstract, “Caregivers’ Perceptions of Illness Terminality in Advanced Heart Failure,” was recognized in the Investigator category. Hupcey is associate dean for graduate education and research; Kitko is an assistant professor of nursing and Macy Faculty Scholar; and Alonso is a student in the Ph.D. program.

The NINR symposium, "Advancing Science, Improving Lives," was the first in a year of scholarly events planned to mark the 30th anniversary of nursing science at the National Institutes of Health. Featuring keynote addresses, scientific presentations, a scientific panel discussion, and a research poster session, the symposium highlighted the many accomplishments of NINR scientists and showcased the impact of their work.
