UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State School of Music will host its Invitational Orchestra Festival on Saturday, Oct. 17, in the School of Music facilities. The festival, a one-day immersion in the art of music performance for talented high school string players, offers the participants a chance to work with the Penn State string faculty in masterclass settings (James Lyon and Max Zorin, violin; Tim Deighton, viola; Kim Cook, cello; Robert Nairn, double bass; and Robert Gardner, string education), and the opportunity to rehearse and perform with members of the Penn State Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Gerardo Edelstein.

The festival will conclude with a public concert performance in Esber Recital Hall at 6:30 p.m. The high school musicians will perform in a side-by-side format with collegiate Philharmonic Orchestra members. Repertoire to be performed includes "Serenade for String Orchestra, Op. 20" by Edward Elgar, and Symphony No. 9 in E Minor ("From the New World") by Antonín Dvořák. Admission is free.
