Penn State Health St. Joseph to celebrate Penn State affiliation with tailgate

Oct. 17 event will feature free flu shots, the Nittany Lion mascot, games, music and Berkey Creamery ice cream

If you're looking for a shot in the arm before watching Penn State football take on Ohio State on Saturday, Oct. 17, look no further than Penn State Health St. Joseph.

On that day, St. Joseph will celebrate its Penn State Health affiliation, announced in July, with a tailgate party. The public is invited for free activities to include food and beverages, tailgate games and competitions, music and a photo booth. The Nittany Lion mascot will be on hand and Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream will be served. (Alcoholic beverages will not be served, nor are they permitted, at the event.)

Free flu shots for those 6 months and older (mist is not available) will be a key part of the day’s events. While not required in order to receive a flu shot, Penn State Health St. Joseph also is welcoming donations of non-perishable foods or supplies to be donated to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County and Humane Society of Berks County. Attendees can bring donated items to the main lobby as they arrive for their flu shot.

Penn State Berks practical nursing students will be joining hospital staff to provide flu shots. More than 20 Berks students will help deliver flu vaccinations during the event.

The event will be held on the Bern Township campus, 2500 Bernville Road, with flu shots running from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the tailgate party running from noon until 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
