Homecoming debuts Alumni Lecture Series

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State senior lecturers Kirk French and Steve Manuel will be featured as the first speakers in the Homecoming Alumni Lecture Series.

French, a senior lecturer in anthropology will speak at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, in 201 Thomas Building on the University Park campus. His work focuses on land use and climate change at Mayan sites in Mexico and Guatemala.

French directs the Moonshine Archaeology Project in North Carolina and is the creator and host of the Discovery Channel television series "Artifact or Fiction," a reality show centered on helping people discover the truth behind items they have discovered on their land.

French received his doctoral degree in anthropology from Penn State in 2009.

Manuel, a senior lecturer in the College of Communications, will speak at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, in Heritage Hall in the HUB-Robeson Center on the University Park campus.

Manuel is a former public affairs officer for the Office of the Secretary of Defense and Marine Corps spokesman. His expertise includes crisis communications, media relations and public relations methods.
