Webinar looks at unmanned aerial vehicle use in the energy field

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- How the use of unmanned aerial vehicles -- commonly called UAVs -- will change operations in the oil and natural gas industries will be the topic of a Web-based seminar offered by Penn State Extension.

This presentation, from 1 to 2 p.m. on Sept. 17, will be presented by Rob Schwarz, president of Remote Intelligence LLC. He will discuss various types of UAVs and their potential uses for the energy industry.

"UAV technology is an important tool in our current world," said Schwarz. "Proper use of this technology is providing significant cost savings and an increase in human safety on the job site as well as environmental conservation."

The webinar will feature examples of imagery and 3-D models. The process for Federal Aviation Administration 333 exemption also will be covered.

The webinar is free, but registration is necessary. To register, visit the Penn State Extension Natural Gas Events Web page. More information is available on the website or by contacting Carol Loveland at 570-320-4429 or at cal24@psu.edu .
