UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- An information and involvement fair focusing on sports communications, marketing and media opportunities at Penn State and in Centre County will be conducted beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 8, in the Bryce Jordan Center's Founder Lounge.

A free session open to all Penn State students, “Sports Night at Penn State” will bring together representatives from more than a dozen communications and media outlets that provide opportunities for students to garner hands-on experience toward an eventual career. Participating outlets include: ComRadio, The Daily Collegian, ESPN Radio, Onward State, Penn State Intercollegiate Athletics, PSN-TV, StateCollege.com, WPSU and more.

Many of the entities enable students to start working toward an eventual career in sports communications or media as soon as they arrive on campus. All of them allow students to hone their skills as they grow during their college careers.

Check-in for the event at the Bryce Jordan Center begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by an hour-long session at 6 p.m. that includes brief information about each of the participating organizations. A catered networking session will follow, providing an hour for interested students to meet with representatives from all of the groups in attendance. The event will end at 8 p.m.

In addition, the session, coordinated by the John Curley Center for Sports Journalism, will serve as a welcome-back event for current Curley Center students with information on the sports journalism program’s fall events, as well as application information for prospective students.

The Curley Center, housed in the College of Communications, explores issues and trends in sports journalism through instruction, outreach, programming and research. The center emphasizes internships and hands-on experience.

In order to expedite the check-in process the night of the event, students may RSVP online (comm.psu.edu/sports), but it is not required. For more information about “Sports Night at Penn State,” call 814-865-8801.
