UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Six members of the 2014-15 Penn State women’s tennis team have been named 2015 ITA Scholar Athletes. Over 33 percent of head coach Chris Cagle’s squad was honored with the release of the annual awards. Athletes considered for the honor must have a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
Sophomore Katia Blik, junior Katherine Whiteaway, freshman Kelly Mengel, senior Melissa Minniti, sophomore Samantha Tutelman and sophomore Taylor Shukow were all honored, giving Penn State six of its 15-woman roster honored.
Blik, an undergraduate studies major, was spent most the season at No. 1 singles, and posted a 10-19 overall record. Whiteaway, a health and human development major, was a starter at No. 3 doubles all season long, posted a 9-18 record in doubles action. Mengel, an undergraduate studies major, was 2-3 in singles play. Minniti, a kinesiology major, saw action during the tournament portion of Penn State’s schedule. Tutelman, a business major, went 5-5 at No. 5 and 6 singles. Shukow, an undergraduate studies major, posted a 12-7 singles record.
The Nittany Lion women’s tennis team posted a 13-11 overall record including an outstanding 10-4 mark in conference action (including the Big Ten tournament).
