A certificate program designed for nonprofit leaders who hope to launch a capital campaign within the next five years will be offered this fall at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College. The six-week noncredit program begins Sept. 11.

The course, Capital Campaign Coaching, has been designed for development directors, CEOs and executive directors, board members and administrative staff.

The program is co-sponsored by Penn State Behrend’s Office of Community and Workforce Programs and the Northwestern Pennsylvania Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. The Friday-morning sessions will be held from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Penn State Behrend, beginning Sept. 11 and ending Oct. 16.

Participants in the course will learn how to:

  •  Organize the capital campaign structure
  •  Build a solid case for support
  •  Determine your campaign budget
  •  Recruit campaign leadership
  •  Assure the momentum of the campaign
  •  Understand the guiding role of the staff
  •  Motivate donors to reach heights they never thought possible
  •  Correct a languishing campaign
  •  Involve their board
  •  Conduct an annual fund in the midst of a capital campaign
  •  Gain momentum after the campaign ends
  •  Determine if a consultant is needed

The Capital Campaign Coaching program provides 15 hours of educational instruction. Participants can apply the program to the eligibility requirements for the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) professional designation and also earn 1.5 Penn State Continuing Education units.

The cost of the program is $800 per organization (up to four individuals may attend; two are required to attend each week). Attendees who successfully completed the Fundamentals of Fundraising or Art of the Ask programs at Penn State Behrend will receive $100 off the cost of this course.
