The Young People’s Chorus of Erie will hold its annual Summer Choir Camp on Monday, Aug. 3, through Friday, Aug. 7.

The camp, which will be held at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Paul, 134 W. Seventh St., focuses on developing singers’ voices through interactive workshops and expert instruction. The day camp is open to all children, ages 7 to 13, and it meets from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The cost is $150, or $130 for current Young People’s Chorus of Erie choristers. There is a sibling discount of $15 for each camper, and financial assistance may be available. The fee covers music instruction, activities, snacks, supplies and a camp T-shirt.

The program includes fast-paced choral rehearsals and age-appropriate music theory classes geared to beginning/intermediate singers and those new to singing in a choir. On Friday, the campers perform an informal concert, which parents and family members are invited to attend.

Camp registrations are due Friday, July 17. Space is limited, so interested participants are encouraged to register soon. It is not necessary to be a member of YPC Erie to attend.

YPC Erie is a youth outreach program of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, and is northwestern Pennsylvania’s only comprehensive youth choral music program. With an emphasis on diversity, YPC Erie brings together young singers from across Erie County. Since 2009, more than 1,000 students from over 40 different public, private and parochial schools have benefitted from the YPC Erie program — currently, more than 100 choristers participate in YPC Erie’s choirs.
