Program encourages young women to explore STEM careers

Brand Name Business, Build Your Own World in 3D, The STEM of Fashion, and Starting From Scratch – Learn to Code are four of the new workshops being offered as part of Penn State York’s 19th annual program to encourage young women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) on Friday, May 15 at the campus.   Pathways to Your Future:  Exploring STEM Careers begins at 8:45 a.m. in the Conference Center of the Main Classroom Building. Registration begins at 8 a.m.Seventh grade girls, their teachers, and some parents representing 28 schools (public, private, charter, and cyber) will take part in this free career awareness program. More than 300 people (students, parents, teachers, volunteers and presenters) will be participating in the free program.Pathways to Your Future offers girls the opportunity to explore a variety of job related fields in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The program brings together young women and professional women and men from academia, medicine, government agencies, business and industry for a day of workshops and discussion. Participants can attend four workshops from a list of 25 covering a wide range of topics.The program also provides teachers with information to guide young women toward career opportunities in STEM fields.      Pathways to Your Future:  Exploring STEM Careers is sponsored by Penn State York, Exelon Generation, Giant Food Stores, Haas Printing Co., Inc., Penn State York Bookstore, People’s Bank, Pullo Family Grant, Snyder’s-Lance, Inc., Stauffer Biscuit Company, UTZ Quality Foods, Inc., and York Traditions Bank.Schools participating in the program are:  Agora Cyber Charter School, Catholic Homeschoolers Group of York, Central York Middle School, Christian School of York, Dallastown Middle School, Dover Intermediate School, E.H.
