Call for proposals issued for Diverse Literacies Conference

Ninth annual conference to be held Sept. 26

Proposals are requested for the ninth annual Diverse Literacies Conference scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Bear Creek Mountain Resort & Conference Center in Macungie, Pennsylvania. The deadline for proposal submissions for the event -- held by Lehigh Valley, in conjunction with the Lehigh Valley Writing Project -- is May 22.

This year’s conference theme is "Teaching them ALL to read and write: What we know about what works." Dr. Richard L. Allington, a noted scholar in the literacy field, will be the keynote speaker for the event. Dr. Allington’s research focuses on reading and learning disabilities, and effective instruction in classroom settings. He is the author or co-author of 15 books and he has served as president of the National Reading Conference and the International Reading Association.

Conference organizers are inviting program proposals from educators of various backgrounds, including elementary teachers; reading, ESL and other specialists; secondary content area teachers; higher education faculty; adult education instructors, preservice teachers; and other professionals. Presenters can submit proposals for four types of presentations: Demonstration Workshop, Research Session, Graphic Display Session or the new category of Strategy Stations.
