UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State Extension is offering two important resources related to dairy products.

The first is a website intended to be used by dairy foods processors to help them improve the quality and safety of products they manufacture.

The website's content is relevant to all dairy food processors – with an emphasis on Pennsylvania processors – including raw milk providers, artisan cheese makers, regional dairies and grade A processors, according to Kerry Kaylegian, dairy foods research and extension associate.

"The website provides centralized access to dairy news, information on Penn State educational programs and resources, and links to outside resources such as ingredient suppliers and trade organizations," she said. "Content coming in the near future includes food safety and sensory evaluation resources. The information will help processors meet regulatory requirements."

The second resource is the Dairy Plant and Raw Milk Permit Directory, which provides a listing of dairy foods permit holders in Pennsylvania.

"It contains contact information for each dairy," Kaylegian said. "The listings are organized by region, county and products manufactured, such as butter, cheese, cultured products, dry and condensed products, ice cream and ice cream mix, milk and fluid products, and raw milk."

The free directory can be downloaded from the Penn State Extension Dairy Foods Website, or ordered in print on paper from the Penn State Extension Publication Office or by calling 877-345-0691.
