Fick elected to American Geriatrics Society board of directors

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Donna Fick, Distinguished Professor of Nursing, was recently elected to a three-year term on the American Geriatrics Society (AGS) board of directors, beginning May 15.

AGS is a nonprofit organization of more than 6,000 health professionals devoted to improving health, independence and quality of life for older people by implementing and advocating for programs in patient care, research, professional and public education, and public policy. 

Fick has served AGS in various roles since the 1990s. She frequently presents and chairs symposia at annual meetings, and both contributes and reviews articles for their publications Journal of the American Geriatrics Society and Annals of Long-Term Care. She was an expert panel member for the 2014 Clinical Practice Guideline for Postoperative Delirium, and has co-chaired the AGS Beers Criteria review panel since 2002. She has also served on several AGS committees. 

Fick’s research focuses on topics related to health care of the elderly, including inappropriate medication use and delirium in persons with dementia. Since 2011, she has served as editor of the Journal of Gerontological Nursing. She was inducted as a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America in 2005 and became a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing in 2009. Among the awards she has received are the John A. Hartford Geriatric Research Award from the Eastern Nursing Research Society, the Springer Publishing Company Award in Geriatric Nursing for Publication in Applied Nursing Research and the Eli Lilly Healthcare Improvement Award.
