Cedric X. Bryant to present review of fitness trends, products

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Cedric X. Bryant, chief science officer of the American Council on Exercise, will present “Can You Trust the Headlines?,” a review of American Council on Exercise-sponsored studies, from 6 to 7:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, at 100 Life Sciences Building, Penn State University Park. The event is sponsored by the Department of Kinesiology’s Diversity and Climate Committee.

Bryant will review studies on fitness programs and products, including CrossFit, Zumba, P90X and toning shoes, to help people make more informed decisions when evaluating exercise programs and devices.

He has written more than 250 articles and columns in fitness trade magazines, as well sports medicine and exercise science journals, and authored, co-authored and edited 30 books.  He is a member of the Institute of Medicine’s Obesity Solutions Roundtable, the Aspen Institute’s Project Play Roundtable, and Co-Chair of the Physical Activity Working Group of the Arthritis Foundation’s Osteoarthritis Action Alliance. He also serves as an advisory board member for several publications including, Arthritis Today, The Physician and Sportsmedicine, Shape, IDEA Fitness Journal, Women’s Health and Better Homes & Gardens.

Bryant has held a position on exercise science faculties at several institutions including Penn State, the United States Military Academy at West Point and Arizona State University. 

He earned both his doctorate in physiology and master’s degree in exercise science from Penn State. In 2006, he received the Penn State Alumni Fellow Award, which is given to a select group of alumni who are considered leaders in their professional fields.
