UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State supporters Peter and Ann Tombros have committed the leading gift to begin renovations to the Penn State basketball film room and training table.
The Tombroses gift will propel the $1.1 million project, which encompasses complete renovations and upgrades to the men's basketball training table area as well as the creation of a state-of-the art film room. The training table updates include a new server and eating area for Nittany Lion student-athletes, coaches and support staff as well as additional storage.
"We are grateful to Peter and Ann for their financial gift, as well as their continued support of the basketball program and all Penn State sports," Patrick Chambers, head coach of the Nittany Lions, said. "We are committed to providing the best possible experience for our players, and gifts like this make it possible. I think the entire team is looking forward to taking advantage of these new resources next season."
The Tombroses have already made numerous contributions to Penn State Athletics including the Tombros Varsity Golf Clubhouse, home to Penn State's men's and women's golf programs.
Outside of Athletics, Peter and Ann have made major commitments to the Knowledge Commons at the University Library and For the Future: The Campaign for Penn State Students.
Ann Tombros is a longtime friend and supporter of the University, where she has volunteered in the University Libraries, the Palmer Museum of Art and the recently completed For the Future: The Campaign for Penn State Students.
Peter earned his baccalaureate and master's degrees from Penn State. Peter also holds an MBA from the Wharton Graduate School of the University of Pennsylvania. He began his career at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, where he held a variety of positions, including Executive Vice President, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, and Corporate Vice President for strategic planning.
In 1994, Peter left Pfizer to become president and CEO of Enzon. Following his retirement from Enzon, Peter has served on eight different public company boards. Tombros served as Non-Executive Chairman of the Board of NPS Pharmaceuticals until February when the company was acquired by Shire Inc. Currently, he is a director of Cambrex and chairman of the Audit Committee. Today, he donates his time as Penn State professor and distinguished executive-in-residence in the Eberly College of Science BS/MBA Program. He was honored in 2006 with Penn State's Distinguished Alumni Award. In 2014 he received the Lion's Paw Award and in February, The Financial Times selected Peter as a 2015 Outstanding Director.
Peter was chairman of the Penn State capital campaign, For the Future: The Campaign for Penn State Students from 2007 to 2014. The Campaign raised $2.2 Billion for scholarships and programs to enhance the student experience at Penn State.
