Penn State Shenango to spotlight community talent in 'Follies' variety show

March 26, 2015

The Penn State Shenango Drama Club announced its upcoming production: “Shenango Follies: Music, Memories, and More.” This variety show will feature singers, actors, instrumentalists, writers and more from the Penn State Shenango campus community.

This variety of songs, comic sketches, adaptations of short stories and instrumental numbers will be held on Penn State Shenango’s Great Hall Stage, located on the first floor of Sharon Hall, 147 Shenango Ave., Sharon, at 7:30 p.m. April 17 and 18, and 2:30 p.m. April 19. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for students and senior citizens, and $1 for children 4 and younger. A complimentary snack is included in the price of admission. Children 12 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

The production is also a fundraiser for AWARE of Mercer County. All proceeds from the Drama Club’s Basket Raffle will go to this community organization whose goal is to provide education, support and advocacy for people in Mercer County impacted by domestic, emotional or sexual violence, or by elder abuse.

According to "Shenango Follies" director Jeanne Zingale, theater and communications instructor at Penn State Shenango, “The production elements are aimed at providing a broad range of entertainment, with musical styles from country to rock, and with short sketches featuring characters as diverse as Darth Vadar and a kabuki-style performer. A couple of our acts are adaptations of contemporary short stories: one is a conversation between God and Adam, and the other features a woman who has begun to hallucinate. There is much to laugh at in the show, but there are also some elements to tug at your heart. There is something for everyone in our show.”

Seating is by general admission, but groups of eight or more can reserve seating. For more information about the show or to arrange for group seating, contact the Penn State Shenango Office of Student Affairs at 724-983-2836.  All seating requests must be made by noon Friday, April 17.
