University Staff Advisory Council extends deadline for membership applications

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The University Staff Advisory Council (USAC) is seeking applications for the 2015-16 academic year and has extended the deadline for applying until Friday, March 27.

USAC is accepting applications from staff who work at all campus locations. Appointed USAC members have voting responsibilities and serve three-year terms, beginning July 1, 2015. Council meetings typically occur during normal University hours, last approximately two hours and are considered University business.

USAC is composed of 30 members from across the campuses, colleges and units, including liaisons representing the President’s equity commissions.

“I had worked for Penn State for over 25 years and I wanted to be involved in a group that had an influence on shaping Penn State for staff,” said Kim Swistock, who recently served as a USAC member. “This is a very hard working group and one that definitely has a voice with top administrators. I felt like a part of a group that was making a difference. Above the work that we all put into the group, I made lasting friendships and learned a lot about Penn State that I’ve not come across in my years of working at Penn State.”

The University Staff Advisory Council was formed in January 1995, when the associate vice president for Human Resources appointed the body (formerly known as the Staff Advisory Committee) to act in an advisory capacity to senior administration through the vice president for Human Resources.
