Men's tennis ranked No. 48 in ITA Poll

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State men's tennis team fell to No. 48 in this week's ITA Poll, released Tuesday. Sophomore Aws Laaribi (Rye, N.Y.) and junior Leonard Stakhovsky (Kiev, Ukraine) are ranked 75th in the ITA Doubles Poll. Penn State is 5-8 after losing a close match at VCU last Saturday.

The Nittany Lions, led by Head Coach Jeff Zinn and Assistant Coach Paul Tobin, dropped a tight 4-3 match this past weekend at VCU. Junior Matt Barry (Lido Beach, N.Y.) and senior Tomas Hanzlik (Prague, Czech Republic) got wins at No. 3 and 6, respectively.

Penn State earned the doubles point, with Laaribi and Stakhovsky winning at No. 1 and sophomore Alex Fennell (Bala Cynwyd, Pa.) and senior Michael Reilly (Raleigh, N.C.) winning at No. 2.

Barry leads the team with eight wins this spring and 12 wins overall. Fennell has five wins this spring, while Hanzlik and Laaribi each have four.

Laaribi and Stakhovsky are 5-3 in doubles this spring, playing mostly at the top spot. They defeated VCU's Joseph Cohen and Daryl Monfils on Saturday. Earlier this spring, the duo knocked off Cal's Gregory Bayane and Chase Melton, ranked 30th.

Fennell and Reilly are 2-1, playing at No. 2.

The Nittany Lions travel to Tampa, Fla. this weekend for the USF Spring Break Tournament, which runs from Friday, March 13 to Sunday, March 15.
