Beaver Lady Lions win PSUAC basketball championship, men fall to York

The Penn State Beaver Lady Lions basketball team won their third consecutive Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) Championship on Feb. 24 when they defeated Penn State Hazleton, 82-68, at the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park.

The championship is the women’s fifth in seven years. On the same day, the Beaver men’s basketball team lost the PSUAC Championship to Penn State York, 108-96. The men finished the season as PSUAC runner-up with a record of 13-5.

Beaver’s Lady Lions were led by freshman Brittany Jackson, of Westinghouse High School, Pittsburgh, with 23 points and eight rebounds. Junior Morgan Kurtz, of Trinity High School, Washington, added 14 points, and sophomore Cassandra Flowers, also from Westinghouse High School, added 10.

Beaver held the team rebound edge, 61-47. On Thursday, March 5, the no. 2-seed Beaver Lady Lions will move into the U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Tournament when they take on No. 7-seed Berkley College of New York at Penn State Fayette, Uniontown.
