Penn State York men's basketbal team captures third straight PSUAC title

It is a three-peat for the Penn State York men's basketball team as they won the Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) Championship for the third straight year. York defeated Penn State Beaver 108-96 at the Bryce Jordan Center in State College on Tuesday, Feb. 24. York now advances to the U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division II Tournament.

The York Lions will take the No. 5 seed and face the No. 4 seed, Johnson & Wales, North Carolina, at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, at Penn State Fayette. The game will be broadcast live on campus in the Community Room of the Joe and Rosie Ruhl Student Community Center for the campus and community to watch.

Logan Steckel, a junior at York, scored a game-high 31 points to lead the York Lions to the title. Tyler Martin scored 20 points off the bench for York, and Josh Jamison and Lucas Jewel added 16 points each. Roger Schumann, grabbed 15 boards as the local Lions out-rebounded Penn State Beaver, 43-36. York also shot 90 percent (35-of-40) from the foul line.

In addition to capturing the PSUAC crown for the third year in a row, three York players: Joshua Jamison, Logan Steckel and Tyler Martin; each reached the 1,000-point mark in their college basketball careers.

Jamison, of Cockeysville, Maryland, a senior majoring in communication arts and sciences, scored his 1,000th point on Nov. 21 in a game against Penn State Hazleton. He is a graduate of Dulaney High School in Timonium, Maryland.

Steckel, of York, Pennsylvania, a junior majoring in communication arts and sciences, reached the 1,000-point mark on Dec. 3 in a game against Penn State Schuylkill. He is a graduate of Red Lion Christian School, Red Lion.

Martin, of York, Pennsylvania, a senior majoring in communication arts and sciences, hit the 1,000-point mark on Jan. 10 in a game against Bob Jones University. He is a graduate of McCaskey High School, Lancaster.
