UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State’s University Park campus was blanketed in white after 8.6 inches of snow fell between late Sunday night and Tuesday morning. The Office of Physical Plant worked around the clock in an effort to keep Penn State’s roads and walkways passable.

Work began Sunday night when some of the more than 250 custodial workers reported to campus charged with keeping 11,000 doorways, many with steps, clear. The labor crew joined the snow removal efforts at 2 a.m. on Monday with landscapers following at 5 a.m. Snow removal continued throughout the day Monday with a Midnight Clear called for all parking lots overnight into Tuesday for the campus’ more than 15,000 parking spaces.

Crews remained in place until the snow passed Tuesday morning.
