Faculty Senate to meet Jan. 27

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The University Faculty Senate will hold its regular meeting at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, in 112 Kern Building. Items on the agenda include:

-- A report on administrative policies at Penn State, followed by time for discussion. As noted in the report, the discussion will focus on: whether there is a need for a central, online place that could provide answers to common job-related faculty questions; whether there is a need for a mechanism for the Faculty Senate to review and provide input on new administrative policy; and whether a mechanism is needed to provide input on existing policies. 

-- An advisory/consultative report on institutional support and resources for general education.

-- Legislative reports on several items including revisions to the standing rules on Senate committee structure with the purpose of codifying the procedures for identifying qualified faculty members to serve on head coach search committees; changes to Senate Council Bylaws to have a mechanism to consider reports from individuals or groups external to the Senate; and revision to the goal statement and learning objectives for general education.
