No. 13 women's gymnastics welcomes Maryland to Rec Hall

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- A season-high score of 196.025 was not enough last weekend at No. 8 Nebraska, but No. 13 Penn State will look to collect their first Big Ten victory of the season when they host Maryland at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Rec Hall. The meet will be a double dual; with the No. 2 men’s program hosting No. 7 Michigan, as well.The two east coast programs will be meeting for the 16th time in the regular season, with Penn State owning a 14-1 record in those contests. Last season, the Nittany Lions and Terrapins both competed in the University Park Regional, with PSU finishing second to earn its 17th trip to the NCAA Championships and UMD finished sixth.Last weekend, Penn State posted its highest score of the young 2015 season, totaling a 196.025 against the eighth-ranked Cornhuskers. The Nittany Lions posted season-best scores on the vault (49.275), uneven bars (49.025) and balance beam (48.975) in Lincoln, Neb. and saw freshman Briannah Tsang move into the record books in a tie for ninth on the vault charts with a 9.950.

Tsang finished fourth in the all-around at Nebraska with a career-best total of 39.350 and currently ranks 13th in the NCAA with an all-around average of 39.287 this season. She also sits among the national leaders on the vault (T11, 9.900) and balance beam (T21, 9.850).Senior Sidney Sanabria-Robles was the top all-arounder last weekend for the Nittany Lions, turning in a career-best-tying effort of 39.425 to finish second overall. She equaled her career-high with a 9.900 on the vault, as well, and tied her season-best of 9.850 on the uneven bars to finish in a four-way tie for the individual title.Sophomore Emma Sibson had a solid afternoon in Lincoln, as well, tying a career-high with a 9.900 on the floor exercise and posting season-best marks on the vault (9.800) and balance beam (9.750). Her 9.900 on the floor exercise is the top score on the team this season and finished second at Nebraska.Maryland hosted and won its inaugural Big Ten gymnastics competition last weekend at the XFINITY Center, downing No. 11 Minnesota, 194.325-193.350. Senior Karen Tang tied the school record with a personal-best score of 9.925 to win the uneven bars, the lone event win for Maryland.The Terps lineup featured 11 gymnasts last weekend vs. the Gophers, with no Maryland gymnast competing in the all-around. The Terrapins rank 10th nationally on the floor exercise (49.050) and are 18th on vault (48.963) entering the weekend.
