Eight to receive distinguished alumni awards in 2015

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Board of Trustees today (Jan. 16) selected eight Penn State alumni to receive the Distinguished Alumni Award, the University's highest award for an individual. The following individuals will be contacted regarding official notification of their selection.

  • Richard H. Bard of Evergreen, Colorado, is the president and chief executive officer of the Bard Capital Group LLC. He earned his bachelor's degree in civil engineering in 1969 from the College of Engineering.
  • Dennis S. Charney, M.D. is the Anne and Joel Ehrenkrantz Dean of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and president for Academic Affairs for the Mount Sinai Health System. He earned his medical degree in 1977 from Penn State Hershey College of Medicine and resides in Chappaqua, New York.
  • Donald Devorris resides in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where he is the president and chief executive officer of The Blair Companies. He earned his bachelor's degree in electric engineering in 1956 from the College of Engineering.
  • Lynn A. Dietrich is the director of Global Engineering and the Engineering Centers of Excellence for Manitowoc Cranes. He earned his bachelor's degree in agricultural engineering in 1973 from the College of Engineering and resides in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.
  • Robert E. Hillman of Weston, Massachusetts, is the research director of the Center for Laryngeal Surgery and Voice Rehabilitation at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), a professor of surgery and health sciences and technology at Harvard-MIT, and a professor of communication sciences and disorders and director of research programs at the MGH Institute of Health Professions. He earned his bachelor's and master’s degrees in speech pathology and audiology in 1974 and 1975, respectively, from the College of Education.
  • Jacqueline C. Hinman resides in Denver, Colorado, where she is the chief executive officer and chair of the board of directors of CH2M HILL. She earned her bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering in 1983 from the College of Engineering.
  • Patrick E. Malloy III is the president of Malloy Enterprises. He received his bachelor's degree in business administration in 1965 from the Smeal College of Business and resides in Sag Harbor, New York.
  • Henry Tomes Jr. of Chevy Chase, Maryland, is the retired executive director, Public Interest Directorate, of the American Psychological Association. He earned his master’s and doctorate degrees in psychology in 1960 and 1963, respectively, from the College of the Liberal Arts.
