Men's soccer to host third annual Mack Brady Clinic on Jan. 18

January 15, 2015

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State men's soccer team will for the third straight year be hosting its widely popular Mack Brady Memorial Clinic in honor of one of the team's biggest fans. The event will be held, Sunday, Jan. 18, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in Holuba Hall on the University Park campus and is free of charge, but all participants will be required to fill out and bring with them this release form in advance of the clinic.

The event is open to children 12-years old and younger and part of the free clinic will have a special focus on goal tending skills. Participants can purchase a special clinic T-shirt for a keepsake and donations to the Mack Brady Fund will be accepted at the door.

John William McKenzie 'Mack' Brady has been an important part of the Penn State program since the late 2000's when he at the tender age of five declared that he wanted to someday be the Nittany Lions' goalie. Tragically and unfortunately Brady's dreams were cut short as he passed away of a blood infection on Dec. 31, 2012, almost two-weeks short of his ninth birthday.

The clinic was set-up shortly after his untimely passing, with the help of Penn State coaches as well as current players and alumni and was meant to coincide with his birthday (Jan. 16), in order to give other Penn State soccer fans his age the chance to enjoy the game he loved with the team he loved.

"The event is a celebration for everyone who loves soccer and for everyone who is fortunate to have great teammates, like Mack, who loved soccer too," said head men's soccer coach Bob Warming. "The One Team theme of our athletic department really means that we are all in this life together, to help each other, to be there when others need us, to support each other, to work together to make things better and to have some fun while we are doing it!  We are excited to work with the kids again this year and are really looking forward to the event."

The spirit of Mack Brady lives on through this clinic as well as a special `Mack Brady Match' which is played each year by both the men's and the women's teams at Penn State. A special memorial patch is worn on each home kit and money raised from the contests help benefit the fund set up in his name. The Mack Brady Fund is an endowment for Nittany Lion goalkeepers to assist them with equipment, recruiting, scholarships and other needs. To date, more than $160,000 has been raised in his honor for his favorite soccer program.

Two lucky participants to this month's clinic will receive a special gift in honor of Mack's birthday but all taking part in the event will benefit from instruction from current members of the Penn State men's and women's soccer teams.
