Public Health Sciences at Hershey ranks second in funding among peers

David Mauger took the top spot of public health researchers

The Department of Public Health Sciences at Penn State College of Medicine is ranked second among its group of 49 peer institutions in 2014 funding from the National Institutes of Health, according to the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research.

Penn State Hershey received $22.8 million for public health/preventative medicine research – about $3 million less than University of Southern California, which topped the list.

Two of Penn State Hershey’s faculty made the top 10 of principal investigators. David Mauger took the top spot of public health researchers, with Joshua Muscat in ninth place.

“The department is very proud of its academic and research accomplishments, and it will strive to continue its level of excellence,” said Vern Chinchilli, chair of the Department of Public Health Sciences. “I want to thank all of the department faculty members whose expertise, experience, perseverance and diverse research interests made this possible.”
