Global Connections gala fundraiser will celebrate the Caribbean on March 1

Global Connections will host its eighth biennial Passport on a Plate gala fundraiser, showcasing the Caribbean from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday, March 1 at the Ramada Inn and Conference Center Ballroom, 1450 S. Atherton St., State College.

Guests will enjoy a multi-sensory Caribbean experience featuring fine food, authentic entertainment, unique table décor and auction offerings – all in support of programs that contribute to international education, understanding and friendship in the greater State College community.

All proceeds benefit Global Connections, a United Way agency and Penn State affiliate dedicated to building community across cultures in Centre County since 1961.

Dinner will feature chef Duke Gastiger of Spats Café and chefs from a dozen other establishments, including the Elk Creek Café, Harrison’s, Benjamin’s Catering, Cooking with Grace, Fasta & Ravioli Co., The Village at Penn State, Gemelli Bakers, The Nittany Lion Inn, Penn State Altoona, Tait Farm Foods and The Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel.

Emcee Katie O’Toole has been an anchor in the State College community for a couple decades, serving as a  media personality, educator and community volunteer.

This year’s auction items include exotic getaways to the Caribbean, an amethyst and diamond ring, a signed football, an Afghan rug and numerous culinary adventures.

Tickets are $135 per person; the deadline to purchase tickets is Feb. 20. Space is limited to the first 200 paid guests. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
