HERSHEY, Pa. -- In its first year of operation, Hershey Community Garden made big strides in building a sense of community and has touched many lives. Located on the west end of the Penn State Hershey campus, the garden’s 124 raised-bed plots sit on about an acre of land. Many of the gardeners work at Penn State Hershey.

During the growing season, more than 800 pounds of fresh food was donated to food banks and other non-profit groups. The Hershey Community Garden also sponsored educational programs for Boy Scouts, Milton Hershey School students and provided volunteer opportunities for teens.

The Hershey Community Garden recently received a donation of a picnic table from Fertrell, a natural fertilizer company that has supported the gardens with product, advice and monetary donations.

The garden is currently closed for the season and will re-open in March. Learn more about the garden at www.facebook.com/HersheyCommunityGarden or www.hersheycommunitygarden.org.
