UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- This year, The Arboretum at Penn State will be welcoming the holiday season with its first-ever Winter Celebration event, to be held from 5 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, at the H.O. Smith Botanic Gardens. The event is free of charge, and all are welcome to attend. Free hot cocoa will be served.

Penn State student a cappella vocal group the Hi-Lo’s will perform a mix of seasonal and popular tunes at the Arboretum’s Overlook Pavilion. In addition to hearing the vocal performances, attendees will be invited to view lighted tree displays within the H.O. Smith Botanic Gardens and Childhood’s Gate Children’s Garden. The trees will feature nature-themed ornaments crafted by children enrolled at Penn State’s on-campus child care centers and local elementary schools.

In previous years, the Arboretum’s main holiday display was installed atop the Margery Enes Smith Soaring Waters fountain, visible from Park Avenue. Because of the need for winter repairs to the fountain, that display will not be erected this year.

The H.O. Smith Botanic Gardens are located near the corner of Park Avenue and Bigler Road, on the University Park campus. There is no charge for admission.
