Gondak completes 2015 outdoor track and field schedule

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Head coach/director of Penn State cross country and track & field John Gondak has released the 2015 outdoor schedule for the Penn State track & field program. The Nittany Lions will compete in 13 meets in eight states starting in early April."I am thrilled to announce our outdoor competition schedule for the 2015 season," Gondak said. "Coming off of an indoor season where we spend the majority of time competing at home on the Ashenfelter III Indoor Track, our outdoor schedule combines great travel opportunities along with meets here in Pennsylvania."

The Nittany Lions will split squads to open the outdoor season as they travel to the Florida Relays (Gainesville, Fla.) and to the Stanford Invite (Palo Alto, Calif.) on April 3-4. April also features meets in Georgia, Louisiana and Pennsylvania.

During April, Penn State will also compete at the Bulldog Decathlon & Heptathlon (April 8-9), the Bucknell Classic (April 11-12), the LSU Alumni Gold (April 18) and the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa., April 23-25.

Following the Penn Relays, Penn State will split squads once again. The majority of the Nittany Lions will compete at the Maryland Twilight (May 1) in College Park, Md., while a handful of student-athletes will travel to Palo Alto, Calif., for the Payton Jordan Invite (May 2).

"We will be competing in Pennsylvania, Florida, Louisiana, California, Maryland and Georgia during the regular season against some of the top schools in the NCAA," Gondak added. "We are looking to use the regular season to prepare for the Big Ten Championships and qualify another large group of student-athletes to Eugene, Oregon for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Penn State then returns home for their lone home meet of the year, the Jim Thorpe Invite (May 8), before the championship portion of their outdoor season begins.The Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships are hosted by Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich., May 15-17.

The NCAA postseason begins with the NCAA East First Round (May 28-30) in Jacksonville, Fla., and the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships are hosted by the University of Oregon at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., June 10-13.

The year concludes for the Nittany Lions at the USA Junior & Senior Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 25-28.

The Penn State track & field team begins their season Dec. 13 at the Ashenfelter III Indoor Track as they host the Blue-White Intrasquad meet.
