Dickinson Law professor pens chapter for international criminal law series

CARLISLE, Pa. – Penn State’s Dickinson Law professor Dermot Groome has authored a chapter in the recently released volume of Criminological Approach to International Criminal Law. The book is among a series that explores substantive and procedural international criminal law. Groome is a featured expert with distinguished experience prosecuting war crimes.

Groome’s chapter elucidates evidence in cases of mass criminality, focusing on the complexity and methodology of investigating international humanitarian and human rights law.

He is best known for leading prosecutions as a senior trial attorney at the Office of the Prosecutor for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), a special court established to try those responsible for war crimes committed in the Balkans. Groome was responsible for the indictment against Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic and served as lead prosecutor in the case against General Ratko Mladic, the highest-ranking officer prosecuted at the ICTY. Groome also served as the office’s on-site director.

Currently Groome is a professor of law, offering courses in criminal law, international criminal law, advocacy and international human rights.
