Five Days of TED will celebrate TEDxPSU, 'ideas worth spreading'

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Five Days of TED, an event celebrating the five-year anniversary of TEDxPSU, will be held from Nov. 10 to 14 on campus.

TEDxPSU’s mission is to bring together innovative and thought-provoking individuals from Penn State and the world to share ideas worth spreading. Using a blend of live talks and pre-recorded videos, TEDxPSU unites the University community and kicks off a dialogue about the challenges and opportunities facing society.

TEDxPSU had its debut in 2010; the 2015 event is set for March 1.

TED High FiveNoon to 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10HUB-Robeson Center ground floor

Artist Michael Pilato and TEDxPSU will partner to create a mural of student, faculty and staff member handprints to celebrate the community that is Penn state. Participants will have their hands painted by Pilato and will make a mark on a mural spelling TEDxPSU. They will be asked to then write the name of the person who motivates them. The finished product will be showcased at TEDxPSU 2015.

TEDxPSU Salon - Equality7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11Kunkle Lounge, Hammond Building

TEDxPSU’s first salon of the school year will feature Jeanine Staples, assistant professor of literacy and language, who will give a talk titled “Why We Haven’t Cured Racism Yet.” Food will be sponsored by India Pavilion and a conversation after Staples’ talk will be moderated by the Penn State section of the National Council of Negro Woman. The event is free. Attendees must RSVP; registration information will be sent via the TEDxPSU listserv and posted on TEDxPSU social media platforms. 

TEDxPSU theme reveal7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13Millennium Science BridgeThe theme for the TEDxPSU 2015 conference will be announced; refreshments, hors d’oeuvres, music and an interactive activity will be offered. Attendees must RSVP; registration information will be sent via the TEDxPSU listserv and posted on TEDxPSU social media platforms. 

TEDxPSU Logo RevealNoon to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14HUB-Robeson Center Ground Floor

The event will begin with a “finish that lyric” competition. There will be a prize for the winner that includes two tickets to the conference with two VIP food passes, two meet and greet tickets, two after-party tickets as well as the opportunity to unveil the 2016 logo. Acapella groups CODA Conduct and Shades of Blue will provide the music for the competition. Food, music and a photo booth will be offered at the event.
