Nursing alumni inducted as Fellows of American Academy of Nursing

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Three alumni of Penn State’s College of Nursing are among 168 nurse leaders selected for the 2014 cohort of American Academy of Nursing (AAN) Fellows.

William McCool, Lorraine (Jemiola) Robbins and Jo Ann (Krukar) Webb were inducted as AAN Fellows during the AAN’s annual conference Oct. 18 in Washington, D.C.

Fellowship in the academy is an honor reserved for those nursing leaders who have made significant contributions to nursing education, management, practice, policy and research. Selection is based in part on the extent to which nominees’ careers have influenced health policies, and the health and well-being of all.

McCool received his undergraduate nursing degree from Penn State in 1988 and a doctorate in human development and family studies in 1990. He is an associate professor in women’s health and nurse midwifery, and director of the graduate program in midwifery at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. In 2003, McCool was honored as a Fellow of the American College of Nurse-Midwives.

Robbins, who received a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Penn State in 1977, is an associate professor in the College of Nursing at Michigan State University. Her research on increasing physical activity to prevent obesity in youth has been acknowledged by the Midwest Nursing Research Society and earned her the Scholarly Writing Award from the Journal of School Nursing in 2011.

Webb graduated from Penn State in 1970 with a bachelor of science degree in nursing. She is senior director for federal relations and policy at the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) in Washington, D.C., and holds an adjunct faculty appointment at The George Washington University. Webb is a Penn State Alumni Fellow and serves on the College of Nursing’s External Advisory Board.
