Penn State Shenango to present ''Twas the Night Before Christmas'

October 28, 2014

Penn State Shenango Drama Club will present Ken Ludwig’s ‘"Twas the Night Before Christmas." Designed to appeal to children of all ages, the show playfully weaves together elements from the Clement Moore’s Christmas poem of the same name, "The Wizard of Oz" and "The Adventures of Robin Hood." The play will launch with an evening performance at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, in the Penn State Shenango Auditorium, 147 Shenango Ave., Sharon, across from the Sharon Post Office. There will also be two matinees at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 6 and 7.

In this version of the famous story, a mouse is very much stirring; in fact, he is stirring up a batch of cookies for Santa’s visit, hoping that this year their house will not be missed again. Together with Emily (his friend and co-inhabitant of the house) and an elf from Santa’s workshop, the mouse plays an important and comical role in saving Christmas. Although the show is not a musical, there are musical elements embedded in the show.

Admission is $7 for adults; $5 for students and senior citizens; and free for children 4 and younger. A complimentary snack and the opportunity to talk with Santa are included with admission. All children younger than 12 must be accompanied by an adult. All tickets are sold at the door and are general seating.

Ludwig is an internationally acclaimed playwright whose work has been performed in more than 30 countries in more than 20 languages. He has had six shows on Broadway and received numerous awards for his work.

A basket raffle with many wonderful prizes and a 50/50 drawing will also be conducted during the run of the show, with proceeds going to the Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County.

"‘Twas the Night Before Christmas" is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French Inc.
