Playwriting competition deadline set for Dec. 12

Penn State York’s Pullo Family Performing Arts Center and the Penn State York Theatre Program are sponsoring the seventh annual playwriting competition. The competition is open to Penn State York students enrolled for 2014.

Original plays of five to 30 minutes are being accepted. Students may submit as many as three scripts. Prizes of $150 for first place, $100 for second place and $50 for third place are being awarded. Since its beginning in 2008, the contest has awarded more than $2,000 in prizes and has had numerous student plays staged.

Contact Stuart Stelly, instructor in English and director of the Penn State York Theatre Program, at 717-771-4185, or tss11@psu.edu for details. Scripts should be submitted to Stelly and will not be returned. Deadline for submission is Dec. 12.

The winners for fall 2013 were Joseph Cabrera, of York, first-place for “Between Hell and Heaven”; Nathan Coulter, of Shrewsbury, second place, for “Broken Reality”; and tied for third place were Jacob Kissling, of York, for “Dimension Tastee Freeze” and Jamaal Ellis, of Harrisburg, for “Brotherly Love.”
