Women's golf hosts Nittany Lion Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- After a two-week break, the Penn State women's golf team returns to the course to host the Nittany Lion Invitational beginning Friday (Oct. 3) at the Penn State Blue Course. The three-day tournament will tee off at 9 a.m. each day with split tee times on Friday and Saturday and a shotgun start on Sunday.

Admission to the Nittany Lion Invitational is free. Joining the Nittany Lions in the field are Columbia, Eastern Michigan, Akron, William & Mary, Yale, Harvard, Maryland, Georgetown, Bucknell, Old Dominion, Princeton, Marshall, Western Michigan. The par 72 course will play at a total of 6,328 yards, a 65-yard increase in yardage from last years tournament.

The Nittany Lions have found a good amount of success at their host tournament with a third place finish a year ago and a win in 2012. Senior Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) has been very successful in the Nittany Lion Invitational as she lead the team last year with a fourth overall finish after shooting a one-over 217. She also claimed medalist honors in 2012. Fellow seniors Catherine Herrera (Houston, Texas) and Katlyn Elliott (Peterborough, Pa.) also played well in last year's tournament finishing seventh and 20th, respectively.

In their only tournament this season, the Nittany Lions finished 19th in the Cougar Classic in Charleston, South Carolina. Ceresko paced Penn State as she came in tied for 26th with a two-over 218. Junior Halley Morell (Brecksville, Ohio) came in 79th in her first tournament in the Blue and White.
