Berks campus community comes together for Unity Day

October 01, 2014

Unity Day, an annual Penn State event that helps bring students, faculty, staff and the community together to celebrate diversity, will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014. The official kick-off will be at 1 p.m. at the Perkins Plaza. All Unity Day activities are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

This year's theme is "Power in Unity" and the slogan is "Celebrate our similarities; Embrace our differences; WE ARE PENN STATE BERKS!”

At 1 p.m. the official Unity Day festivities will begin at the Perkins Plaza. Several clubs will have activities and workshops, and participants will receive a free t-shirt. Activities include a poster contest about unity, names written in different languages, a “positive words” graffiti cloth, a performance by the Step Team and student vocalists, and much more.

In addition, a variety of thought-provoking activities will be held throughout the day in the Franco and Luerssen Buildings, Thun Library and Perkins Student Center. In Franco, there will be an activity in preparation for the upcoming Dignity Tour with Penn State Laureate Dr. Susan Russell, who will use the comments and responses collected during this activity when she visits the campus on Wednesday, Oct. 15.
